Shanghai’s neighbor, Hangzhou is the capital and the largest city of Zhejiang province. Hangzhou is well known for it’s West Lake, which is the main attraction for tourists who wants to enjoy the charm of this city. Marco Polo used to say that ““Heaven Above, Suzhou and Hangzhou below.” Well this quote is still more than ever true nowadays.
1- One of China’s wealthiest city
Hangzhou’s great success can be explained by the numerous luxurious brands that are represented in the city. Located at 200 km from Shanghai, it takes only 45 minutes to come to the city center by train. This is why a lot of Shanghai citizen come there for the week end or for a romatic getaway! Qinghefang street (also called Hefang street) is well known for the nice shops and boutiques where people can buy souvenirs or drink the famous Longjin tea (plantation are nearby). A funny thing to try is the Tea Ceremony where you are explained how the tea should be served and taste the difference between several teas.
2- The West Lake, the attraction of Hangzhou
West Lake is without any doubts what provide the charm of this city. With a 8m2 width, the lac has an amazing vue on the mountains that sourround the lac. Every hour a little water show is given with traditional music playing. A must see! Once you’ve seen this you must visit the Feilaifeng, a park located 210 meters up from the lac and in which you can admire more than 300 Buddhas that were built in the rocks. Will you find them all?
